Louise's Utopia: Coteau Valley Farm Melts!

Updated: Nov 17

The snow is finally beginning to melt at Coteau Valley Farm and Nursery. On Easter Sunday all the migratory birds seemed to emerge out of nowhere. There were literally thousands of flocks of birds, geese, swans, ducks, and lone birds like hawks and eagles. The air is much warmer and the snow has turned into pools of water. The world seemingly has become bigger. I had forgotten how much space there is on the farm, even on the driveway and parking spaces, everything seemed vast and large. Suddenly the farm awoke from its deep sleep and the sounds of birds and eagles screeching in the sky filled our ears. The flocks of birds landed in the fields as we watched them scurrying for insects and mice. Even the cats were excited to go outside and hunt and they finally caught their first bird, sadly for the bird. The cats were so proud of the hunt. I think Miso did the work and Mochi just nervously paced back and forth waiting for his share of the bird. Our feline friends have also been exploring the fields again, occasionally they will bound high in the air and share their location with anyone in view. The snow is not completely gone, there are still some reminders of this remarkably long winter. But it is a changing scenery and it is nice to feel the warm air and see the open space of the Coteau Valley, and finally say goodbye to the cold. As we have taken our first few walks outside, we found a lot of mud on the driveway to the house. We had to park our truck at the end of the road near the gate. We were unsure just how deep the mud would get and did not want to have to be pulled out of our own driveway. Thankfully, the driveway dried up very quickly, and life went onward. I look forward to the remainder of the Spring and the warm days ahead, what about you?
