Coteau Valley Farm has a new beginning. An orchard is going up tree by tree. Many bareroot trees are in the ground and are looking amazing. We hope to plant at least twenty-five apple trees this season. There will be over six varieties of apples when we are finished. If all goes as we hope. We are really excited about this addition to the farm. We had some set backs actually purchasing the apple trees. We however, did eventually locate a few good growers and we are on our way to success. The soil here on the Coteau is black and amazing, it is really nice looking soil. It has been very easy to dig into because there are no rocks. This has made the hole digging easy. It has not been to strenuous to dig and plant. The PH of the dirt checked out well in the field in which we chose to plant the apple trees. It is a nice field that gets all the southerly sun. The trees look so amazing and beautiful. They are going to really accentuate the beauty of the farm. I personally am very thrilled to have this project in the works. I have so many projects planned. I get carried away by the wind here, I think. So fun! We also are keeping up with care of the property on the sidelines, as we go. Honestly, there are still things we have not completed to have the farm tidied up in general. We recently removed tethered ropes off the North line of pine trees. These ropes were in place I believe to brace what was once smaller pines from being blown over by the wind. We were long overdue in removing the ropes. They should have been taken down years ago. These trees are close to thirty feet tall now and need no bracing. Some of the ropes have left harmless grooves in the trees. They now look so groomed. Freshly mowed grass around them. I will trim off some lower branches that need to be removed very soon. Then these pines will be ready to grow even bigger. Everything looks much more ordered and neat. It is such a great time of year. The sun is out and it is quiet and peaceful on the prairie. Check back all summer. We have to finish these apple trees. There are also a few other fruit trees that are in line waiting to go into the beautiful, rich soil. Finally we will have one more surprise planting, coming soon! Besides all the produce we have going into the garden! Leave a comment and share. Happy planting.
