We have a 50' by 90' field fenced area on our property here at Coteau Valley Farm in Northeast South Dakota. In the Spring it will be plowed up and tilled and planted with a wide variety of wildflowers. Daisies, Sunflowers, Black-Eyed Susans, and many other beautiful sun-loving floral. We plan to place a walking trail around the flowers with a rocky area that houses bees, possibly planting a tree near this spot. The field lays in direct sunlight and close to our garden patch so we hope the bees will be pleased and happily pollinate our garden. Also, we hope any passing ladybugs and other creatures such as butterflies will make their home in the garden. In the center of the 4500 square foot area will be a large bird bath that will be full of clean water. The rocky path will be strewn around and through the flowers as a walking trail to enjoy the beauty of the garden and pray or just relax. This garden will be pesticide free and nothing poisonous to nature will be used on anything in the garden. In my mind, I envision this is going to be a wonderland of flowers and bees and birds and even creatures not so loved like snakes and mice. A fashionable show of nature, color and warmth and comfort where a small bench will be strategically placed in the sunlight. The garden will be filled with the sounds of life, birds chirping and flowers swaying in the wind, waving their colored petals much like a regal peacock, flaunting his wonderful feathers for the world to admire. The air above the flowers will be filled with dancing butterflies and pollinating bees soaking up the warm sun all summer long. It will be a piece of Heaven! I can already see the color and feel the sun's warmth in the hottest part of the day, with the breeze whispering between the different flowers spreading floral scents. It's nice to have hope of a garden, one that will bring everyone who visits it a sense of relaxation and wonder and hope! I can't wait for the Sunshine and flowers and the warm breeze of the Summer. Keep watching, as I will post pictures of our progress in the future months.
