Louise's Utopia: Here Is The Church-Where Is The Steeple and What Happened to the People?

Updated: Nov 17

One of my favorite pastimes is driving around looking for unique things to photograph. It doesn't have to be anything great, or even anything that I will share with others. It is just fun to pullover and grab a quick snap, or few hundred snaps. Now it is so easy with digital cameras to take as many as you want, and get instant results. Sure the old Polaroid camera must have been fun, but one certainly couldn't capture the grandeur of the Coteau. I can adjust the appature, the shutter speed, the ISO. It is Mind-bogglingly fun, especially for everyone else in the car who patiently waits for me. There is nothing the driver wants to hear more than "STOP," I saw a turtle in the road and need a quick picture. Surprisingly, turtles are quicker than you might think, I guess they have to be in order to not get ran over by cars driving like it's the Indy 500. Anyway, I am very good at finding things to photograph. Take for instance the above speciman. Everytime I drive past this church I wonder what happened to the steeple? Did it blow off? Is it under repair? (Doubt it blew off. It landed to nice.) So, why is the steeple on the ground? Is it somekind of sermon from the preacher? A metaphor for life. "Even if your steeple blew off, you are still beautiful in God's eyes." There is a cemetary. Is it supernatural? I don't know. I just know I pass by this church a lot and the question always comes to mind. Why? It has been like that for some time too. How long, I am unsure. That is what a good photograph does to me, opens a world of questions. While you can never fully capture the beauty of reality, you can frame a moment in time.

Since photography is my most favortie pasttime, I am always on the lookout for fellow photogs...hahaha it is not photohogs, but I had to check to make sure. What kind of camera do you shoot with, what is your dream camera. I currently use a Canon 6D. It is a few years old, and yes I am anxiously wanting to buy something newer. That is the problem with photography, there is always something greater, so you better watch your bank account if you decide to get into my hobby. Recently, I have been eyeing the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III Body https://amzn.to/4dqwex0 This really looks like a great camera, and while it is probably more than I need, it would be fun to use. Next up is the CanonEOS 5D Mark IV Digital SLR Camera. https://amzn.to/4gJ9awz This one is just slightly better than what I have, so I will probably pass, but still a great camera if you are looking. Both of these cameras are full frame, so they use image sensors that are equivalent to 35mm film. If you are looking to get into photography and want something a little less, you could always get the Canon EOS Rebel T7 DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens. https://amzn.to/3TKbiKv This is a great starter camera and would take very good photos. As you can tell I am a Canon fan. I guess it is sort of like Ford vs. Chevy. I don't want my truck to be found on the road dead, so I drive a Chevy. Hahaha, if you like Fords, maybe you should buy a Nikon.

Now, I am going to show you my dream lens. Yes, I am probably crazy if I buy it, and yes it is more than a small car. However, it would be amazing. Imagine the pictures of the moon I could get, or closeups of birds, or Mr. Coyote in the field. Are you ready for it? Well here it is, the Canon RF 800mm https://amzn.to/3N0cyp3 Man on man, I would like to have that lens. But, for now it is a beyond my budget. Who knows maybe someday. What I may get soon is a wide angle lens. I like this one best, the Canon EF 11-24mm f/4L USM Lens https://amzn.to/4efshwD

Yes it is still pretty expensive, but it would be really fun for taking photos of the beautiful Coteau landscape.

Whatever type of camera you have, get out there and enjoy the landscape. I am amazed how many good photos I actually get on my iPhone. Take some great photos, then sit back and ask questions. Like the photo above. I still am perplexed as to why the steeple is there, on the ground. If anyone knows anything about this church please tell me. Now that the picture is out there I bet a few other people will share my sentiments. It is bizarre. Way out in the middle of NOWHERE atop a grassy plateau. That is where I found that church. Please let me know if you know anyone who knows what there is to know about that church. And please, please take some beautiful pictures to enjoy yourself, and share with others.
