A recent fall ice storm moved through Coteau Valley farm in Northeast South Dakota, leaving the world looking like a glass creation. Freezing rain coated the prairie icing its path; leaving behind a fairy tale look. Delicate, fragile, and shiny is how the world appeared, much like when sunlight hits a prism, with many vivid colors. The wind roared in and cold, wet, rainy gusts turned the grass to icicles little chimes in the wind. The grass rustled like a million musical instruments playing a song. The bark of the trees developed a thick coat made of ice, the branches were completely encased. Like a field of Christmas lights hung with care on the grasslands. The world looked and sounded strange and colorful. It was musical and alive with a different kind of noise, something enchanting and stark compared to the vibrant fields of green during the hot Summer. Everything seemed oddly dormant, but it wasn't and the earth sang a new upbeat tune under the arctic freeze. The cold wind and freezing rain changed the fields around us and we watched in awe at the wonderland.
